On typography

Why type matters more than color in a quiet interface.

On typography

When everything else is monochrome, typography does the heavy lifting. The shape of a letter, the space between lines, the rhythm of a paragraph — these become the entire personality of the page.

The hierarchy of restraint

Three weights, two sizes, and a single mono face for eyebrows are usually enough. Anything more is noise.

A page that knows what it is will never need to shout.

A small rule

  • Pick a single display face and commit.
  • Let the second line of a title fade to text-muted-foreground.
  • Use monospace only for dates, eyebrows, and code.
const heading = "Quiet writing, pulled from a folder tree.";

A page that earns its whitespace will never feel empty.
